Akron Air Force Veteran and Family Receive Full Roof Replacement

Today, Akron-based Air Force veteran Willie Henry and his family received a brand-new roof along with multiple interior and exterior home upgrades, thanks to a partnership between Home Genius Exteriors (HGE), Owens Corning, Habitat for Humanity of Summit County, and The Home Depot Foundation. This roof replacement was made possible through Home Genius Exteriors’ involvement in the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a national program that provides new roofs at no cost to veterans and their families. The Owens Corning Foundation donated the roofing materials and HGE donated the labor.

The project marks a full-circle moment for the Henry family. In 1994, Habitat for Humanity partnered with the family to build the home. More than three decades later, Habitat for Humanity once again stepped up to support the family, coordinating with Owens Corning and HGE and partnering with the Home Depot Foundation to secure donations for additional repairs and upgrades.

The Henry family’s commitment to giving back has been unwavering since receiving their home from Habitat for Humanity. They have continually volunteered with the local chapter of the non-profit organization over the past 30 years, teaching their children the value of community service through their actions.

Willie Henry, who followed in his father’s footsteps by enlisting in the military after high school, served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. According to family members, his service became a defining chapter of his life, teaching him resilience, discipline, and the belief that you always make the best out of a tough situation. After his military service, Willie built a life rooted in hard work and family, spending years in factory work until its closure.

“Supporting the Henry family was truly an honor,” said Brent Miller, Executive Vice President of Home Genius Exteriors. “At Home Genius Exteriors, we believe a safe and secure home is the foundation for stability. Giving back to those who have served our country is one of the most meaningful ways we can use our expertise, and we are proud to stand alongside our partners in making this possible.”

HGE’s involvement in the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project is part of the company’s Home Genius Cares initiative, which provides support, service, and donations to local communities.
